BluWave-ai Selected to Dubai Future Accelerators to work with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority for AI-enabled Smart Grid Operations

Ottawa, DECEMBER 14, 2020

Canadian company bringing its data-driven energy optimization platform to leading agencies and corporations in the United Arab Emirates

BluWave-ai announced that it has been selected by the Dubai Future Accelerators (DFA) to onboard its artificial intelligence (AI) products for key use cases with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). DEWA is one of the top Dubai government departments, responsible for the generation, transmission and distribution of both electricity and water for the 3.3 million citizens of Dubai. The DFA works with selected startups from around the world to solve key challenges for DEWA in the area of future critical infrastructure resiliency and business real-time process automation.

For the DFA’s current accelerator cycle (Cycle 8), BluWave-ai was selected to participate along with a cohort of four other leading start-ups to solve these use cases with their leading technologies during the accelerator phase.

BluWave-ai is demonstrating how its distributed platform, enabled by AI, can offer real-time, data-driven predictions for intelligent planning of smart grid assets. The company is bringing expertise in distributed AI solutions, power systems and data science to the challenge. Our portfolio includes providing solutions to utilities in several countries, including Tata Power (India), Greencat Renewables (UK), Tampa Electric (USA), and Hydro Ottawa and Summerside Electric (Canada).

This work is part of DEWA’s ambitious future vision for long-term sustainability, as outlined in its 10X DUBAI strategy. DEWA is the world’s first utility applying autonomous systems for renewable energy, and storage, expansion in AI adoption and providing digital services.

Through offering the environment, resources, and access to the key decision makers needed to promote disruptive and positive change, DFA, an initiative of Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), empowers entrepreneurs and startups to co-design and co-create innovative solutions side by side with government and private sector partners to support the economic growth of the UAE. The program serves as a platform for government entities, startups, and well-established companies from around the world to explore and test solutions that address future challenges across diverse sectors.

The BluWave-ai cloud-based platform is able to integrate sensor, meter and other Internet of Things (IoT) data from throughout the grid and process it in real-time. The DFA Cycle8 also includes integration into DEWA’s SCADA and SAP systems, with the goal of advancing DEWA’s business process automation.

“Emerging technologies, such as AI, have transformed the operations of the public sector and elevated its performance. Scaling up AI in government operations has improved processes and achieved highly positive outcomes for society. We are delighted to onboard BluWave-ai in DFA, and look forward to a productive partnership with DEWA,” said Saeed Al Falasi, Executive Director of Future Design and Acceleration at DFF.

“Dubai and DEWA are world leaders in sustainable and AI-enabled automation across its economy,” said Devashish Paul, CEO and Founder of BluWave-ai. “ Working with DFA and DEWA is a perfect mesh of BluWave-ai’s patented, world-deployed AI solutions and the forward thinking of a leading global utility”.

“Dubai is a great laboratory to deploy the latest technologies from leading Canadian innovators such as BluWave-ai,” said Jean-Phillippe Linteau, Consul General of Canada in Dubai. “We are thrilled that BluWave-ai, with support from the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service, was selected for the prestigious Dubai Future Accelerators.”
