The Team

Devashish Paul

Devashish Paul founded BluWave-ai in 2017 and has built out one of the world’s premiere renewable energy and transport electrification companies, based in Ottawa, Canada. In his role at BluWave-ai, he has taken AI concepts to live working systems from Asia to Europe to North America, successfully navigating the growth of the company through the critical COVID-19 pandemic, onboarding new customers worldwide and growing the team with an international employee group from 15 different countries. Devashish has taken the company to multi-million dollar SaaS revenue and has been an inventor on several of the company’s patents.

Prior to BluWave-ai, Devashish had an extensive career in the semiconductor industry focused on supercomputing, artificial intelligence, and networking. During his 20+ years in the tech world, Devashish has led successful innovations in a diversity of markets at Canadian start-ups, Toronto Stock Exchange-listed, and Silicon Valley public companies. He has grown businesses in Europe, Asia, and North American from the startup level to $110M annual revenue. In industry leadership roles, he ran the High Performance Computing Group in the Open Compute Project (started by Facebook) to create open industry computing platforms for low-latency workloads. Devashish also served as an advisory board member for the CERN Open Lab. Devashish earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Royal Military College followed by a Masters in Electrical Engineering (Digital Signal Processing) and an MBA in Marketing, both from the University of Ottawa. He is a veteran of the Royal Canadian Air Force.

Devashish is a life-long cyclist and nature enthusiast using human powered energy for personal transportation to explore the world. He is a 31-time Ironman triathlon finisher, has coached masters athletes to 100+ finishes, was a coach for 14 years with the Kanata Nordic Ski Club, and has raced for Canada in 10 world championships. He is also a world traveler who loves connecting with people in diverse cultures both for personal interests and driving BluWave-ai's goal to become the premier global renewable energy AI company.

Mostafa Farrokhabadi


Dr. Mostafa Farrokhabadi is the technology and innovation leader at BluWave-ai. He has more than a decade of experience in designing mission critical grid solutions for industry and academia, including smart grids and microgrids projects with Hatch and Canadian Solar.

Mostafa has (co)authored several articles in high-impact journals, conference proceedings, and magazines, and holds patents on intelligent control and optimization of renewable-penetrated grids. He has also led the award-winning IEEE Power and Energy Society Task Force on microgrid stability, an international coalition of 21 researchers from 14 institutions investigating stability issues in microgrids.

Mostafa obtained his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo. He has also studied and performed research in Sweden at KTH and Germany at KIT.

During the course of his career, Mostafa has received multiple business, research, and teaching awards, including the prestigious Ottawa's Forty Under 40.

When not busy researching and developing smart grid solutions, Mostafa actively raises awareness on climate change and energy poverty, enjoys reading about science and history, and contemplates the future of the human species.


Craig Downing


Craig Downing has over 20 years experience in technology companies in a wide range of areas including, specialized and high-performance computing devices for consumer, communication and industrial applications, hardware device security and software security, machine vision, graphics and image processing.

Craig’s roles in these companies included technical team management, managing integration projects with customers, international business development, technical product marketing and product management defining, bringing to market and managing the lifecycle of systems, software and electronic device products.

Tim Guttormson


Tim Guttormson has 18 years of experience bringing advanced software solutions to customers solving complex problems in the world of integrated circuit design. He’s passionate about communicating the benefits of the BluWave-ai solution to the world, while applying his field engineering experience to build a team in that area for the company as it grows.

In his spare time, Tim enjoys training for triathlons, travelling and spending time with family.

Owen Kelly

Owen Kelly is a data-oriented R&D engineer with experience defining systems with statistically driven requirements. Passionate about using computation and analysis to leverage measured data. Rigorous and practical. Fascinated by numbers, Owen’s role at BluWave-ai is to use quantitative skills to deliver measurement-aware policy optimizations for energy micro-grid systems. Owen is equally comfortable sharing quantitative outcomes with customers, as working independently on complex mathematical formulations. He has an unabridged enthusiasm for numbers! Owen earned a B.A.Sc. in Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo and a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rice University.

Alex Linchieh


Alex Linchieh is a Product Manager at Bluwave-ai. He previously held lead engineering, planning, and project management roles within the energy, consulting, and defense industries. Alex's interest is focused at the intersection between engineering and business, particularly regarding the future of smart cities and the implications of AI on society.

Alex has a B.Sc. In Materials Engineering (with a Nanotechnology minor) from the University of Alberta and holds Professional Engineering (P. Eng.) and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designations.

In his spare time, Alex enjoys photography, hiking, sports cars, and building high performance computers.

Brandon Rohan Paul


Brandon Paul completed his degree in marketing at the University of Ottawa in 2018. While at school, he also took electives in Roman history and 19th-21st century world history. Brandon continues his education on the world by trying to learn something new everyday, avidly reading texts and listening to podcasts on history, politics, and society. Brandon likes to contemplate what he's learned on his morning run and has completed five half marathons since 2014.

Nasrin Sadeghianpour

Director of Machine Learning.

Nasrin is a Senior Smart Grid & AI Scientist at BluWave-ai. Prior to that, she was a Ph.D. scholar at the smart grid team in IDLab. During her tenure in IDLab, Nasrin successfully applied AI in four major industry projects, developing solutions using statistical modeling, machine learning, and deep reinforcement learning, to facilitate practical demand response algorithms for residential customers and electric vehicles in the smart power grid. Nasrin's Ph.D. research led to several high impact international publications. She obtained her Ph.D. in computer science from the Faculty of Engineering, Ghent University, Belgium, in 2018.  

Nasrin loves traveling, exploring different cultures, and meeting new people.

Hubert Sugeng

Hubert Sugeng drives the product development at BluWave-ai. He’s been working in engineering for over 16 years, with recent leadership roles delivering product with AI-based KodaCloud, and Bridgewater Systems (acquired by Amdocs).

Hubert has led the development of performant, scalable, and fault-tolerant products running in national level mobile carriers, as well as cloud SaaS with IoT devices. He holds a B.Sc. in Computer Systems Engineering from Carleton University.

Aside from building cool stuff at BluWave-ai, Hubert loves to game, play badminton, and is very curious about how everything works from tech, to macro-economics, to astronomy.


Lutz Tischendorf

Dr. Lutz Tischendorf develops and integrates software at Bluwave-ai.  He has an extensive background in software development, system administration and project management and is a recognized scientist in the field of computational biology.  He has worked in IT for 20 years and has been CTO of a German-based company Esemos GmbH for 11 years.

Lutz led the development and operations of high performance and high availability software in support of powering internet and intranet searches for the German Telekom and multiple online portals and ecommerce sites. He was also primarily responsible for managing and analyzing big data.

Lutz is the author and co-author of more than 40 peer reviewed publications and is still active in research related to applying optimization methods to problems in conservation ecology.  

In his spare time, Lutz enjoys the outdoors on ski, foot, bicycle, sailboat or canoe, serves as a director at the Northern Magic Fund in support of helping children in Kenya and likes to travel and explore the world.


Muhammad manages the Finance, Accounting, and Human Resources operations at BluWave-ai. He started his career in Corporate Banking, as a Management Trainee, and quickly moved up to the role of Relationship Management.

Muhammad has completed a BSc. in Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering and has recently completed an MBA from Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa.

He is passionate about finance, business ethics, and holistic fitness. In his spare time, he likes to have coffee chats, read books on the economy and human psychology, and practice calisthenics.

Muhammad Zaheed


Behnam Tamimi


Behnam Tamimi is an electronic and energy systems engineer, educator, and researcher. Behnam brings to BluWave-ai a depth of experience in data analyses and distributed energy resources design, as well as control, optimization, and mathematical modelling.  He is an IEEE Senior Member, was a member of two IEEE-PES taskforces on benchmarking test systems, and has received two international and four Canadian recognition awards for his contributions to the field. Behnam received his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Canada, and has been constantly contributing to open-source software foundations. When not busy with "work" he loves playing with math puzzles and programming languages.

Samantha Berg

Samantha Berg is a Data Analyst at BluWave-ai. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Queen’s University, where she was on the Dean's Honour List, and a Data Science Diploma from Brain Station. She enjoys using her critical and analytical thinking skills to solve complex problems. In her free time, Samantha loves to downhill ski, paint and explore the great outdoors.


Rahul Gahlawat


Rahul loves number crunching and finding efficient solutions to intricate problems. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and a post-graduate diploma in Business Analytics.  Rahul enjoys gaming and exploring the outdoors in his spare time.

Humam Fadel


Humam Fadel joins the company as a Sales Manager responsible for multiple international markets. He has more than 17 years of experience with global power leaders such as General Electric (GE) and ABB, focused on electrical, automation and power energy solutions. Humam has an Electrical Engineering degree from Ajman University, in the United Arab Emirates. In his free time, Humam loves swimming, soccer and hiking.

Kaan Gun


Kaan obtained his Engineering degree in Sustainable and Renewable Energy from Carleton University. He has been an active member of the IEEE Carleton branch, hosting weekly workshops and mentoring engineering students. He is passionate about sustainable energy system, and how machine learning may help in this context. His 4th-year project developed advanced reinforcement learning techniques for battery energy management systems (https://kaangun.com). In his free time, Kaan enjoys hiking, traveling, and cooking, but only after having a cup of coffee.


Manish Bhasin

Manish Bhasin helps with the back-end systems at BluWave-ai and enjoys designing and discussing software architecture. He graduated from Software Engineering at York University where he worked on a mobile app for improving healthcare communication for his capstone project. Manish likes listening music Post-Rock while he codes. He plays the violin when he can find the time.


James Roundell


James Roundell designs and implements the data platform at BluWave-ai.  James obtained degrees in Computer Engineering from McGill and Law from Osgoode Hall Law School.  James has a diverse career as a tech entrepreneur, as a director in corporate America e-commerce and as a lawyer practicing poverty law in Ontario. James enjoys spending time with his family, the outdoors, being active, learning new things and meeting new people.

Alan joined BluWave-ai with extensive experience in international technology sales, marketing and business development including 10 years at the European Headquarters of Digital Equipment Corporation in Geneva, Switzerland. He has held various senior management positions with early stage and established technology companies including FileCatalyst, Pronexus, N-able Technologies, Corel, and Mitel . Alan holds a BSc from the University of Western Ontario, BAdmin from Brock University, MBA from Switzerland and a Sommelier Certificate from Algonquin College. In his free time, Alan enjoys travelling, sports, exploring new wines and spending time at his cottage with family.


Alan Atkinson

Swagata Bhattacharya

Swagata joins Bluwave-ai to drive the QA initiative for all its projects. She has more than a decade of experience as QA  lead in projects of varied technologies and business domains. She has worked in multiple projects for UBS (United Bank of Switzerland) and CN ( Canadian National Railways) . She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering. She is passionate about renewable energies and is keen about her contribution towards it in this role. In addition to her love for QA,  she is interested in history, innovations, writing poetry, short stories, photography, and learning new languages . She loves travelling and appreciates the diverse cultures and places in the world.


Keegan Green


Keegan Green is a highly motivated optimization engineer at BluWave-ai. Keegan earned his Bachelor's in Mechatronic Systems Engineering at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, where his capstone project was developing customizable 3D printed sensors. Keegan's engineering skills are multidisciplinary, ranging from machine learning to power generation, but he is especially passionate about programming and applying his strong interests in sustainability. In his spare time, Keegan strives to learn by doing while maintaining his smart agriculture electrical engineering projects.

Alaa Elsayed


Alaa is responsible for expanding and improving the tools that Bluwave provides, ensuring they are as user-friendly and scalable as possible. Alaa has a specialized in Video Game Development at University of Prince Edward Island. Other than problem-solving, Alaa enjoy making music and generally socializing when given the opportunity to.

Sahar Sedaghati


Sahar is a passionate Data Scientist at BluWave-ai. Prior to joining us, she worked as a Control System Analyst in the aerospace industry and then as an Associate Machine Learning Developer at AltaML. She obtained her Master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Concordia University. She enjoys bringing innovative data-driven solutions to real-world problems, working in a team environment to explore new ideas, and furthering her knowledge. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, biking, and playing Persian music.
