BluWave-ai's next session in its Global Energy Transition Summit series will feature women from around the world who are leading initiatives to drive climate change mitigation.

The summit will offer multiple key perspectives on the challenge, including business insights from funding bodies and government departments working in the cleantech and energy industries, as well as engineering experts leading the development of key technologies, specifically artificial intelligence (AI), as they apply to climate change mitigation.

Her work in the Canadian public service has focused on diversity and inclusion in the natural resource sectors. She brings to this role first hand experience as a female scientist, as well as extensive experience working with women and minority communities across Canada.

Leah is a lifelong advocate for engineering, entrepreneurship and the environment. Over the years, Leah has served on many corporate and non-profit boards, including serving as president of the Ottawa chapter of the International Women’s Forum, the chair of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, and the president of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA). In 2018, she was honoured to receive the Centennial Leadership Award, APEGA’s highest distinction for a member who has achieved exemplary achievements in their career. In 2019, Leah was listed in WXN’s Top 100 list as one of the nation’s most powerful women in business, recognizing her drive and passion for innovation.

Nasrin, prior to her work at BluWave-ia, was a Ph.D. scholar at the smart grid team in IDLab. During her tenure at IDLab, Nasrin successfully applied AI in four major industry projects, developing solutions using statistical modeling, machine learning, and deep reinforcement learning, to facilitate practical demand response algorithms for residential customers and electric vehicles in the smart power grid.

Nasrin's Ph.D. research led to several high impact international publications. In 2018 she obtained her Ph.D. in computer science from the Faculty of Engineering at Ghent University in Belgium.

Camilla's career started in mechanical design for motors and generators. Later her focus became research, a lot in robotics and mostly with collaborative robots. She's really interested in Industrial design and the area of user experience and design thinking. Camilla's role at ABB is to scout global startups and scale-ups in Robotics, Automaton and Energy. Through SynerLeap, ABB can help to accelerate these companies through collaborations with them.

Prior to joining Cycle Capital, Shirley was the Director of Investments for the MaRS Investment Accelerator Fund (IAF) and responsible for investment recommendations and decisions, portfolio management, sourcing and partnering. Previously, Shirley spent over 12 years acting as advising biotech, ag-biotech and advanced manufacturing and materials companies. She holds her ICD.d (University of Toronto), an MBA from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Waterloo.
