BluWave-ai Leads Fleet Electrification Panel at World AI Summit

Transportation and power grid experts from Walmart, ABB, and Hydro Ottawa share the stage

Ottawa, Canada / April 14, 2021

BluWave-ai, one of the world’s top start-ups in the area of artificial intelligence (AI) for renewable energy and transport electrification, is chairing a panel of experts at World Summit AI, being hosted virtually from Montreal, Canada. The panel brings together ABB for its hardware solutions for fleet electrification, Walmart for its deployment of electric vehicles (EVs), and Hydro Ottawa for the grid side challenges of large charging loads. BluWave-ai will share its expertise on the orchestration of system-wide EV fleet electrification using real-time, cloud-based AI solutions, to optimize energy expenditures and fleet efficiency around the clock.

Fundamental changes to electric grids are already underway from the double-digit growth of EVs for commercial use and the proliferation of distributed and renewable energy. Utilities are studying the impact of EVs on peak power demand, and innovative solutions to minimize costly infrastructure upgrades and optimize the use of renewable energy. Fleet operators are facing the operational challenges of introducing EVs into the fleet, looking into techniques for intelligent energy management of the fleet to mitigate the impact on the electric grid while minimizing their supplied cost of energy.

Walmart Canada is committed to 100% alternatively-powered fleet vehicles by 2028, with a 2022 target of electrifying 20% of our fleet,” states Francis Lalonde, Vice President of Transportation, Walmart Canada. “Operationalizing this ambitious transition comes with its challenges in managing EVs and routes in the context of a mixed fleet and real-time energy costs.”

ABB‘s customers rely on our company to deliver the critical hardware and system solutions for charging and onboarding EVs along with critical grid side infrastructure,” comments panelist Frank Muehlon, President of E-Mobility Division, ABB. “I’m looking forward to discussing some ABB green city projects and the keys to success for transport electrification.”

“The electricity service model is in the midst of a significant transformation with customers not only looking to the utilities to solve their unique loading requirements, but also seeking non-traditional methods of connecting and interacting with them,” explains Laurie Heuff, Director, Distribution Engineering and Asset Management, Hydro Ottawa. “For this panel I’ll talk about how vehicle electrification can quickly introduce extreme loads at single locations, putting pressure on distribution systems which are not inherently designed for this type of request. As the industry turns to their electric company to be their gas station, utilities will be challenged to meet high-demand, short-timeline connection requests. We need to begin looking at alternative solutions to smooth energy peaks, such as customer incentive programs, energy storage systems and platforms that allow dynamic interactions with the customers’ assets.”

Jim Butler, Business Development Director, World Summit AI states, "The positive impact that electric vehicles will make on the world has never been more important. BluWave-ai’s technology is pivotal as we redesign society, cities and the way we create and use renewable energy. World Summit AI is thrilled to have such a stellar lineup of forward-thinking leaders on this esteemed panel."

Devashish Paul, CEO and Founder of BluWave-ai, comments, “In bringing together this incredibly strong panel, BluWave-ai is providing a system-wide view of the challenges around transport electrification and how AI-based orchestration is mandatory for solving the complex problem holistically. My colleague, Dr. Nasrin Sadeghianpour, will be moderating the discussion as well as sharing how BluWave-ai’s data-driven, energy management platform is enabling its customers to more readily meet their vehicle electrification and decarbonization operational challenges.”

The panel is on Wednesday April 21, 2021 from 11:50am to 12:35pm Eastern. There will be a question-and-answer period included in the session. For more information and to register for World Summit AI Americas visit the Summit website: https://americas.worldsummit.ai/
