BluWave-ai Expands AI Energy Optimization Footprint for Japan

Canadian Company AI Products Accelerate Japan’s National Energy Transition, Building on Successful First Project with Technology Partner

OTTAWA, Canada – October 5, 2023

BluWave-ai announced it is expanding its international footprint for the Japanese market following completion of a project to maximize use of renewable energy assets at Japanese industrial sites in partnership with one of Japan’s top engineering companies. BluWave-ai is bringing its technology from global AI deployments, enabling the energy transition in Japan by optimizing energy at industrial grid attached plants with solar generation and battery storage.

BluWave-ai’s initial project was to explore the advantages of AI-driven energy optimization using the BluWave-ai Smart Grid Optimizer in the Japanese industrial context. This took place at a corporate R&D Center which uses a combination of rooftop solar, battery energy storage systems, and biomass generation. BluWave-ai was able to show a meaningful reduction in demand peaks, substantial savings on monthly energy costs and reduced GHG emissions, tailoring the Smart Grid Optimizer for Japan:

  • 100% of the renewable energy generated by the PV solar array and biomass energy generation system was captured and used while avoiding  reverse power flow to the grid.
  • The target of a 20% improvement in demand peak reduction was also surpassed.

The company is building on this success as a foundation to launch a broader engagement in the country. BluWave-ai’s Smart Grid Optimizer deployments are in operation worldwide, maximizing the use of renewables and energy storage. For example: North America’s first solar power time shifted rock concert run during the 2022 Bryan Adams Tour from which some of the innovations for this project were built.

“This successful result shows the portability of our AI models across geographic locations for electricity markets around the world,” said Devashish Paul, BluWave-ai CEO, “As Japan has an  islanded grid focusing on a shift from nuclear to renewables, this fits closely with BluWave-ai’s mission. Moreover, the solution is not just ideal for industrial customers, but also for electricity system operators. We look forward to building on this initial success to expand the footprint all over Japan.”

BluWave-ai is participating in a trade mission hosted by the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade and will be exhibiting at the CEATEC conference at the Makuhari Messse, Chiba, Japan, October 17th to 20th 2023. This provides opportunities for partners seeking advanced technologies to meet with BluWave-ai to further mutual sustainability goals. BluWave-ai aims to expand on this strong start in Japan, to continue its journey in the Global Energy Transition collaborating with like minded clients, technology partners and investors.

BluWave-ai is also joining the Innovation Leaders Summit being held in Tokyo from December 4th to 7th. The ILS is Asia’s largest open innovation conference with the aim of matching major companies and startups, and creating innovative new businesses.
